BIO

I belong to a generation that was strongly marked by the outright rejection of “the academy” which represented all the values then considered outdated: beauty as the only form of art, the figurative, the “well done”. I was enthusiastic about Velázquez and I was also amazed by the freedom of the new creators. Little by little I discovered that both positions, far from being antagonistic, are complementary.

I was born in Seville, a beautiful city that represents the Spanish in the collective subconscious. A place that is still anchored to ancient traditions while also housing a rich contemporary culture. I studied Fine Arts at its University, which still continued a program very similar to that studied by students a couple of centuries ago, but which allowed me to learn the trade, the traditional techniques that are being lost due to ignorance or convenience, and above all, to see, not just look at, art. I remember having only one teacher; all the other teachers were men.

Due to life circumstances, I ended up specializing in the analysis of 16th century painting while designing jewelry woven with precious metals. I have always created in one way or another.

I now live in Tenerife: a very different light, overwhelming nature and... an overwhelming tourism that erases the contours of identity. Recently, I have finally dared to be free, which is why I am interested in contemporary art.

My work is marked by three fundamental factors:

  • Creating beauty from feminine resistance: our identity.

  • The dialogue between our time and the art of previous centuries.

  • Use, as far as possible, materials that belonged to other lives.

I have exhibited in international spaces such as TEA (Tenerife Espacio de las Artes), Shin Art Gallery (NY) or Palazzo Litta in Milan, my work has been awarded on several occasions such as the prestigious Sheriff du Mode in Paris. I am a member of SAcO (Spanish Society of Contemporary Crafts).
